Hospitality — A Tone Commission
A 17th-century inn, specified for a 21st-century trading day
A 17th-century coaching inn in Hatfield Peverel, refit-led with the historic fabric kept central. The Commission was a conversation between the building and the operator. Where the historic detail had to be retained, the studio held the line.
Where a 17th-century building had stopped serving 21st-century trading, the studio specified the modern infrastructure beneath the surface — kitchen flow, sightlines, acoustic treatment, lighting layered for service. The result is an interior that reads as a serious refit of a serious building, not a 17th-century pub politely modernised.
