Brentwood and its surrounds — Hutton, Shenfield’s edge, Ingrave and Herongate — hold some of the largest private homes in this part of Essex: mock-Tudor and inter-war detached houses, generous post-war plots, and a steady supply of high-specification new-builds. It is an affluent, design-aware town, and the brief we are most often given is for understated luxury — a home that feels expensive in its materials and its planning rather than in its labels.

That suits Tone’s approach exactly. The studio works to a quiet-luxury sensibility: restraint, fine materials, bespoke joinery and a plan that works for family life, with nothing included for show. The result is a home that reads as considered rather than decorated.

We are a whole-home studio. The strongest Brentwood commissions take the house as one brief — reception rooms, kitchen and dining, principal suite, children’s rooms and bathrooms, and the gym, media room or dressing room a large modern house earns — held together by one director, one process and one set of supplier relationships so the house resolves as a single piece.

Every project is fully surveyed before a decision is made and fully costed before work begins. The Tone Commission runs Discovery, then Concept, Design & Specification, then the Commission, then the Reveal, with Manong directing personally and the studio holding a deliberately small number of concurrent projects.
