Windows, doors, material choices, and external colour all require scrutiny. This is not constraint—it is clarity. Period properties have already made their statement. Plasterwork, joinery proportions, and material hierarchy become the conversation rather than decoration.

Beaulieu Dental Practice required both clinical precision and human warmth—a interior that patients could trust and staff could work within all day. Fruittii Hair Salon needed to hold a particular energy without becoming fashion-led; The Starr Pub’s Hardware Bar demanded the integrity of a neighbourhood anchor rather than a designed experience. Each was a Commission and Reveal grounded in the specific geography and community of its location, not a template applied to the postcode.

The south Essex property boom of the past two decades has brought new building types to the county: converted period barns, new-build developments designed to echo rural character, and substantial residential extensions. These require a different discipline. A barn conversion in the Rodings or a sympathetic extension to a 1930s home in Loughton will fail if it shouts. The design must sit within the existing proportion and material story.
